LUIS SUAREZ claims he left Liverpool because he was tired of the English media.

The maverick striker made his £75million move to Barcelona in July last year, ending his three-and-a-half year stay in the Premier League.

Suarez was involved in many controversies during his time in England, receiving lengthy bans racially for abusing Manchester United's Patrice Eva in 2011 and biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic.

However, he has now revealed he made the move to Spain because of the behaviour of the British media, who he now claims "miss him".

He told beIN SPORTS: "I don’t know if there is a campaign of the English press towards me, but it can be seen that they miss me.

"They criticise me so much that they look for something that is not there to draw attention.

"They published images of me (next to Demichelis) in the morning and when they saw that that was false those images disappeared off the pages.

"I said enough and that they leave me alone and that I went because I was tired of them, but yet they are still looking [for me]."

Suarez made his Barcelona switch only a matter of weeks after he was banned from football for four months after biting Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini at the Brazil World Cup, but says he is now at the best club in the world.

He added: "I am very happy at Barca, I fulfilled a dream to play at the best club in the world and now I am enjoying it.

"I am contributing things to the team and that leaves me calmer and makes me feel important.

"The family are very happy in Barcelona and enjoying a city that we knew. The children are in the school and my wife is very happy."
