Chelsea snub sees Man Utd handed boost in race for Arsenal target Gregory van der Wiel

GREGORY VAN DER WIEL has hit out at Laurent Blanc after he was dropped for PSG's Champions League clash with Chelsea last night.

Van der Wiel has been linked with a move to Manchester United in recent weeks, having previously been on Arsenal's radar.

But after holding off competition from Serge Aurier to become first-choice right-back at the Parc des Princes this term, it was thought that a move seemed unlikely.

However, after being replaced by Marquinhos for the game at Stamford Bridge last night, the Dutch defender revealed his dissatisfaction with Blanc.

He told NOS: "The coach did not tell me anything about it. This came as a big surprise.

"This is not the right way to drop a player. It's not usual to drop someone without explaining it, but apparently that's the way things go here.

"It's a real shame that I did not feature from the start, because these are the kinds of games you want to be part of.

"It was a crazy game. First the red card for [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic, then we fell behind twice, yet we fought back each time.

"I don't think it was a deserved red card. They both went for the ball. Zlatan hit him, but he never had the intention to injure Oscar.

"Chelsea were unable to dominate the game, even against 10 men. They don't have a team to dominate and kept gambling on a quick counterattack."
