Liverpool join Tottenham in Memphis Depay race (but player hints at £20m Man Utd move)

LIVERPOOL have joined Tottenham in the race for PSV star Memphis Depay, but the player has hinted he favours a move to Manchester United.

The Dutch forward caught the eye at last summer's World Cup and has impressed again in the Eredivisie this term.

And according to Goal.com, Brendan Rodgers is ready to battle United and Spurs to bring the player to Anfield.

It is claimed that Rodgers has instructed the Liverpool hierarchy to make a competitive bid for the player in the summer.

Memphis Depay favourited a tweet about Manchester United's interest

Reports earlier today suggested that United were closing in on a £21million deal for Depay, who would be reunited with Dutch national team boss Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford.

And the 21-year-old appeared to endorse the move after favouriting a link on Twitter which talked up United's interest.

The tweet, from a PSV fan site, read: "Man United have a lot of money for Depay."

Depay subsequently deleted the tweet Liverpool now face an uphill battle to land the talented youngster ahead of United.
