Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool ROCKED as Sami Khedira edges towards Schalke deal

SCHALKE have signalled their intention to beat Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool to the signing of midfielder Sami Khedira after their sporting executive refused to play down rumours of a deal.

Sami Khedira Player Profile

Khedira, who was linked with the Premier League rivals in the last two transfer windows, is set to be released by Real Madrid at the end of the season.

The German World Cup winner has been a peripheral figure at the Bernabeu this season but played for 58 minutes during Schalke's 4-3 Champions League win against Madrid on Tuesday.

Horst Heldt, Schalke's sporting executive, insisted they would be interested in Khedira but was cautious about their chances.

"Of course, Sami Khedira would look good with Schalke. And we'd certainly take him if he were on the market," said Heldt.

"But let's not get carried away. There are many clubs who can imagine working with Sami."

As Khedira was substituted last night, he was roundly booed by the home fans but the 27-year-old says he will remain committed until the summer.

He said: "I have also been booed when I came off the bench. I am fully aware of the fact that I am not a fan favourite here.

"I will give it my all for the club until the last minute, and what happens in the summer is still a long way off. I am open for many things."
