Vincent Kompany was reportedly involved in a clash with Fernandinho at Anfield

City saw their title ambitions take a blow by losing to the Reds at Anfield earlier this month.

Captain Kompany was subsequently dropped for City's 2-0 win over Leicester last Wednesday.

And according to the Daily Mirror, Citizens boss Manuel Pellegrini left his skipper out because of a dressing-room meltdown.

Insiders claim Kompany and Fernandinho nearly came to blows at half-time at Anfield.

A source told the Daily Mail: "Fernandinho had a bit of a go at Vinnie and he went right back at him.

"He was raging and didn't take well to the criticism. Others had to get involved to stop it getting worse."

It is believed Pellegrini stepped in and sided with the Brazilian, who was allegedly telling the centre-back to improve his performance.

Fernandinho was left out of City's squad for the defeat of Leicester but both players could be set to return against Burnley on Saturday (5.30pm).
