According to The Telegraph, Van Gaal wants at least four signings - with Nathaniel Clyne, Mats Hummels, Kevin Strootman and Edinson Cavani top targets.
It is also claimed up to 10 players could leave Old Trafford.
Michael Carrick, Ashley Young, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Jonny Evans, Javier Hernandez and Rafael da Silva are all under threat of being sold.

German newspaper Bild believe Gundogan is stalling on a new deal with the Bundesliga club in the hope of moving to Manchester.
