Brown turns 36 later this year but Black Cats' chief Gus Poyet reckons the former England and Manchester United defender has one more Premier League season in him.

The centre half joined Sunderland along with Old Trafford team-mate John O'Shea four years ago.

But while the Irishman has been a near ever-present over that period, Brown's first two seasons on Wearside were blighted by injuries and at one stage, it looked as if he may have to quit.

He made his comeback after 18 months of the sidelines a fortnight after Poyet arrived and has been a mainstay in the Black Cats' backline ever since.
