Danny Welbeck: Old Trafford return was tough for me

ARSENAL striker Danny Welbeck claims it was a lot harder than he thought it would be facing his former club Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Welbeck signed for the Gunners from United in a £16m deal last summer after being told he wouldn't fit into Louis van Gaal's plans.

The England international came back to haunt United as he netted the winner for the Gunners in their FA Cup quarter-final showdown.

Talking about his return, Welbeck told the club's official website: "It's good for the team that we're through to the next round, in the semi-finals at Wembley.

"To get the goal was good for me but it was all about the team performance tonight.

It was a great reception. It was hard for me but I tried to be respectful

Welbeck also claimed that he thought little about scoring against his childhood team and was just focussed on helping his side reach the semi-finals.

He added: "I stayed professional and I was just doing my job. To be able to get back on the scoresheet and get through to the next round is the most important thing."
