Angel Di Maria REFUSED interviews after red card (but won't be punished by Van Gaal)

ANGEL DI MARIA refused interview requests after seeing red as Manchester United crashed out of the FA Cup.

Di Maria was dismissed for grabbing referee Michael Oliver's shirt as Arsenal won 2-1 at Old Trafford.

The British record £59.7million signing had already been cautioned for diving and looked distraught as he trudged off the pitch.

Arsenal held on to their 2-1 lead to secure a place at Wembley, Danny Welbeck's winner ensuring victory against his old club.

And Di Maria was in no mood to discuss the incident after the game as he turned down requests for a post-match interview.

United boss Louis van Gaal declined to defend the Argentina winger, but revealed he is unlikely to punish him for the offence.

"No, I don't think so," the Dutchman said when asked if he would discipline Di Maria.

"I think he's touched the referee and that's forbidden in every country, so he has no excuses," he added.

"In Spain he knows that he doesn't touch the referee, but that is also in his emotion.

"I've already spoken with him, he knows my opinion but also I have to see on the video.

"He doesn't have to touch the referee. That is not so smart of him."
