United and Celtic will clash three more times in a fortnight after Sunday’s quarter-final at Tannadice ended at 1-1.

United’s Paul Paton and Celtic’s Virgil van Dijk were shown 11th-minute red cards when the game erupted following Scott Brown’s challenge on Nadir Ciftci.

But Dillon does not expect any bad blood to linger into Sunday’s final. He said: “Regardless of age, you need to keep the head. You need to concentrate for 90 minutes as it’s huge, it’s a cup final.

“I don’t expect it to carry on into Sunday. Others might think differently but I don’t see it that way, maybe because I wasn’t involved.

“If you let it get to you, it can affect you and the team. You need to stick together and make sure you’re looking after yourself and each other.

“We don’t want anyone going into the game thinking about anything other than putting on on a good team performance and winning the cup.

“What happened, happened and I expect it to be wrapped up and the focus just being on Sunday now.

“As far as any ill-feeling is concerned, I’d imagine that would be that.

“Whether something else comes up, that’s nothing to do with me. There could be something going on I don’t know about.”

United have appealed Paton’s red card as he was the victim of mistaken identity.

Ref Craig Thomson sent off the midfielder on the advice of assistant Graham Chambers.

But it was Calum Butcher who reacted to Van Dijk’s challenge, while Paton was not involved in the flare-up.

And Dillon hopes Paton will be free to play in the final. He said: “I’d imagine his red card will be rescinded.

“He’s been in the media a lot recently and he’s not happy about that, which is understandable. So you can understand his disappointment.

“It’s tough for him to take, considering he wasn’t involved.

“Hopefully, for his sake, he’ll be available.

“But I don’t know how that process works. I’d imagine somebody’s working on it.”
