Skrtel was taken off early in the game

The Ivorian entered the fray after Martin Skrtel was substituted early on following an awkward landing, and came the closest out of Brendan Rodgers' stars to booking a place in the semi-final at Wembley.

The game had barely kicked off when play was halted for eight minutes as Skrtel received treatment on his head, before Raheem Sterling went close with a fierce effort for the home side.

Adam Lallana felt that he should have been awarded a penalty in the 19th minute, before Toure saw his strike disallowed after straying offside.

Rovers keeper was forced into a great save in the sixth minute of added time in the first half, with Daniel Sturridge coming close to giving his side the lead.

The England international tried claiming for a penalty early in the second half after being held by Matt Kilgallon, before Toure cracked the post from another offside position with half an hour remaining.

However, neither side could break the deadlock, and the two will meet in a replay at Ewood Park to decide who will compete in the semi-finals at Wembley.
