Danny Ings is set to leave Burnley at the end of the season

Ings, whose contract at Burnley ends in the summer, appeared set to join Brendan Rodgers' Liverpool and boost their attacking options.

But according to the Mail on Sunday, Manchester City boss van Gaal dispatched Jim Lawlor to Anfield on Wednesday night to watch Ings play against Liverpool.

The England Under-21 forward is being tracked by a host of clubs including ex-United boss David Moyes at Real Sociedead.

Danny Ings Player Profile

Express Sport exclusively revealed this morning that Manchester City have made enquires about Ings due to their need to bolster the number of home-grown players in their squad.

Ings is under the age of 24, so a fee for him would be decided by a tribunal if there was no agreement.

Should Ings move abroad, Burnley could receive just £300,000 but if he remains in the Premier League, they would pick up £6million.
