Angel Di Maria is currently struggling for form at Man Utd

The Argentina international broke the British transfer record when he completed a £59.7m move to Old Trafford from Real Madrid last summer.

However, Di Maria has yet to reproduce his best form under Louis van Gaal, and writing in the Telegraph, Neville claims that being forced out of the Santiago Bernabeu plus a recent burglary at his Cheshire home has left Di Maria low on confidence.

Neville explained: "No matter what your profession or where you live, you cannot overstate the psychological impact of having your home breached by an intruder.

"Having grown up in and around Manchester as a United supporter, it is easy to regard the club as the biggest in the world.

Di Maria's season has now reached the stage where he is low on confidence and not delivering what everyone expects him to produce

"We have to accept that, as a South American, playing for Real Madrid or Barcelona is probably the fantasy of every footballer from that part of the world, and Di Maria has moved to England after being told he was not wanted at his dream club.

"I just believed he would come into the team and light the place up - seven months on, that has not happened.

"But since that day [scoring against Leicester], Di Maria has scored just two more goals - one of them coming against Yeovil in the FA Cup - and he has quite simply looked a shadow of his former self.

"Di Maria's season has now reached the stage where he is low on confidence and not delivering what everyone expects him to produce."
