Danny Welbeck's career won't fade insists Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger

ARSENE WENGER has refused to show any sympathies that Danny Welbeck’s Arsenal career may be going the way of his Manchester United spell and simply insists the striker fights for his place.

The England international left Old Trafford at the start of the season citing the lack of regular first-team opportunities and initially hit the floor running in London, rattling in five goals in his first seven games.

But in the last two games he has found himself left on the bench until the very final minutes as Wenger has made it clear his preferred front four comprises Olivier Giroud together with Santi Cazorla, Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.

“We come down to that problem, yes, that people always raise these kind of questions, when you do not have enough players, or when you do have enough players,” said Wenger.

“We have chosen a job where competition is part of our job. We cannot complain about that, because we have made that choice.

“I never understand this kind of question, because this is part of our job. Our job is to serve the club, and compete with other people to do as well as we can to serve the club.

“The only important thing is what the club achieves, after all of us are only here for that.”

And ahead of Monday’s FA Cup trip back to Old Trafford, Wenger insisted Welbeck’s situation was not that bad.

“He’s very important and has played many, many games since the start of the season,” he said.

“He’s one of the players who has played the most games for us, just not in the last couple of games.

“First of all I believe that Danny Welbeck puts big team effort in, he plays very well for me and is an exceptional player who will have a great future here.

“I am convinced the subject is raised because he is a former Man United player.

“I am very, very happy that I thought him and I think he has a great future.”
