Gus Poyet's charge is related to him kicking a water bottle after being sent to the stands

The Black Cat's manager kicked out at a water bottle on the touchline when sent to the stands by referee Mike Dean, and it's this action that has caused the punishment.

Hull boss Steve Bruce has also been contacted by the FA and has been 'formally reminded of his responsibilities' after his actions in the 1-1 draw.

Poyet has until 18:00 GMT to respond to the charge.

Both managers played down the confrontation on the touchline after the game, despite the pair of them being separated by match officials.

Steve Bruce said:"It was grown men acting like children. Look, we all do stupid things but we will all wake up in the morning and regret it.

"We'll look back in the morning and think, 'Oh, good God', but sometimes the red mist comes down.

"I've invited him in for a glass of beer - I hope he accepts because it's a long way home and he's had a horrible night."

Poyet added: "What happened on the pitch stays there."
