Angelo Fulgini is a target for Manchester United

Louis van Gaal has identified his back-four as an area that needs strengthening over the summer.

And while the likes of Mats Hummels, Diego Godin and Raphael Varane have all be linked with moves to Old Trafford, it is claimed that United are casting the net much wider.

Indeed, reports this morning suggest that Valenciennes pair Angelo Fulgini and Dayot Upamecano are both on the Red Devils radar.

Manchester United could look to the French second division for reinforcements

Fulgini - an 18-year-old full-back - is also wanted by Barcelona, but has been watched by United on at least one occasion.

Meanwhile, 16-year-old Upamecano almost joined United at the end of the January transfer window only for a £1million deal to fall through.

Arsenal are also keen on the youngster and could make a play in the summer but United hope that their French scout David Friio's strong links with Valenciennes can help them win the race for the pair as they look to build for the future.
