MANCHESTER UNITED great Paul Scholes has predicted Ryan Giggs will leave Old Trafford in the next two or three years in order to further his managerial career.

Giggs, who assumed the caretaker role after David Moyes' sacking last season, has been Louis van Gaal's number two this term.

Though the Welshman has been groomed as a potential successor to Van Gaal, Scholes has expressed his doubts over Giggs' long-term future at Old Trafford.

And he thinks Giggs may not decide to hang around too much longer to wait for his chance.

"There's no doubt, he had that little taste of it for the last three weeks of last year and he definitely wants to be a manager," Scholes told BT Sport.

"You can see that. Over the next two or three years, will he have the patience to be a number two for that long? I'm not sure he will."

Giggs was in the dugout for United's 1-0 win over Newcastle last night.

However, he looked rather stony-faced when Van Gaal after Ashley Young hit a late winner.
