ASTON VILLA manager Tim Sherwood has leapt to the defence of Alan Hutton after an apparent stamp on West Brom striker Saido Berahino tonight.

Hutton collided with Berahino on the touchline late in the game and avoided a red card, despite replays suggesting he could have been dismissed.

Villa won 2-1 on the night thanks to Christian Benteke's dramatic late penalty that lifts them out of the Premier League relegation zone.

But all eyes were on Hutton and Sherwood told BT Sport he saw the incident differently.

"When he [Hutton] is stretching for the ball, extending his leg, what can he do? I just think he's unfortunate Berahino for being in the way there."
