Manchester City need a response against Leicester City

Pellegrini has faced fierce criticism from ex-players and fans for not adopting a more defensive formation in the back-to-back defeats to Barcelona and Liverpool that have left City facing a trophy-less season and his job under threat.

But Pellegrini refuses to copy Chelsea counterpart Jose Mourinho’s more pragmatic methods in a bid to save his neck and win more trophies.

“I can win titles but if I am not happy with the way my team is playing then maybe I will not continue at a club,” he said. “Of course, it is very important to win titles but there are lot more things that I analyse about my management and just as important for me is the way you win them.

“When you are winning [everyone thinks] you are doing everything the best way. When you don’t win maybe you do all the things in a bad way. Mourinho just won the Capital One Cup but this time last year we won it and maybe then I was doing all the things correct.

“There are different ways to win titles but I prefer my style because you win more titles this way. I know what is best for this team and it is important we don’t change.”

Pellegrini denies he is under pressure from City’s demanding Abu Dhabi hierarchy to win the either the Premier League or Champions League this season in order to save his job, but admits they do want to see progress and he will be judged at the end of the season.

“I have never had any pressure to win a title every year if I want to continue here,” he added. “They want to win titles but they also want a complete work. They want to improve. And we will analyse everything at the end of the season. I am not worried about the future, only the present.”

Pellegrini is set to drop five players for tonight’s (Wed) must-win clash with basement club Leicester. Pablo Zabaleta, Eliaquim Mangala, Aleksander Kolarov, Samir Nasri and Edin Dzeko all face the axe with Bacary Sagna, Martin Demichelis, Gael Clichy, James Milner and Wilfried Bony all set to come in.
