SPOTTED: Southampton hit back at Liverpool's Brendan Rodgers with program note

SOUTHAMPTON have hit back at Brendan Rodgers' criticism last week with a humorous note in the program for tonight's game with Crystal Palace.

Brendan Rodgers ruffled some feathers with his program criticism

Rodgers accused Saints of being disrespectful towards Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Dejan Lovren when they returned to St Mary's in Liverpool colours.

He suggested there should have been a tribute in the matchday program for their service to the south coast club.

After the game Rodgers said: "I felt a wee bit disappointed for Adam, I have to say.

"He was the captain here for two years and gave incredible service to Southampton.

"I know for a fact he could have left here a number of times and didn't. To get the reception he got was disappointing.

"I looked in the match program and there was nothing relevant to his time here. He and Rickie Lambert helped get the club where they are today, but there was no mention of them, which was sad."

And in tonight's program for the clash with the Eagles the editor, Simon Williams, responded.

He wrote: "We drew some unexpected attention from Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers after our last issue.

"He never revealed whether or not he completed the word search though."
