Palace, who are at Southampton tonight, have been given until 6pm to offer their own evidence after Jedinak appeared to elbow West Ham's Diafra Sakho in an off-the-ball incident on Saturday which was missed by referee Mike Dean.

Jedinak was given a three-game ban after being sent off at Sunderland earlier in the season. If he is found guilty this time, the ban will be four.

Pardew will decide whether to play his Australia midfielder against Saints but may now be without him for the games against QPR, Stoke, Manchester City and Sunderland.

Television evidence showed Jedinak catching Sakho in the face, a challenge that Hammers manager Sam Allardyce believed deserved a red card.

Jedinak has just come back into the side after missing 10 games with an ankle injury.

From where I was, Jedinak did nothing wrong and if there was contact it was accidental

Pardew, speaking yesterday before the charge was announced, said: "I have seen worse incidents. It is becoming trial by TV. We are being damned by it.

"Some cases are highlighted following televised matches where some of the comments made by the pundits are also a bit worrying.

"From where I was, Jedinak did nothing wrong and if there was contact it was accidental."

Saints manager Ronald Koeman insists all is not yet lost in their bid to secure European football.

His side have lost three of their last five Premier League games but Koeman said: "We had a difficult time in December and the players' reaction was fantastic. I expect the same in the last 11 games."
