Premier League heavyweights Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United have been keeping tabs on the 18-year-old since the summer of 2012, but City were the only side to make a formal offer for the then-PSV midfielder the following year.

And while Bazoer was impressed with City's training facilities, he turned down the move to be close to his family and friends.

"City is a club where they do things quite rationally," his representative said. "The turnover of players is very fast, but their youth academy is fantastic.

"They have everything: top trainers, top facilities and there are a lot of big names. It all fits. Financially and in a sporting sense, the offer was great. When a student gets the chance to go to Harvard, he will go, right?

"But Riechedly wanted to stay close to his family and friends. Then all the money in the world doesn't count. And Ajax offered a great sporting opportunity.

"PSV was not happy with his transfer to Ajax. But the way things are going, we're very happy we did it."
