The Blues benefitted from two deflected goals - from John Terry and Diego Costa - to edge Spurs 2-0 at Wembley.

Cahill started alongside Terry in his first League Cup final and provided an impressive display, keeping rival forward Harry Kane quiet for much of the game.

And the former Bolton star expressed his delight at beating Spurs in London.

"This sets up a good finish to the season," he said.

"Against our local rivals, clean sheet, we've won the cup, it's an amazing feeling.

"They made it tough, they had a couple of chances in the first half but the skipper stood up for us with the goal, Diego was superb, and every single player on the pitch gave 100 per cent."
