MANCHESTER CITY manager Manuel Pellegrini says his side struggled to handle the pressure of playing at Anfield today - and that was what ultimately cost them.

Manuel Pellegrini's Manchester City managed just one shot on target at Liverpool

City lost 2-1 to Liverpool thanks to Jordan Henderson and Philippe Coutinho strikes to set them further behind Chelsea in the Premier League title race.

They recorded just one shot on target, with eight others flying wide of goal on a frustrating night for the reigning champions.

And Pellegrini, who defended his team selection after the game, admitted his players failed to control the game.

"Playing two up front at Anfield was the best decision," he said.

"It was a close game and they won the game when we had one striker on.

"I'm concerned that we are losing the ball too much - pressure is a factor. There is much we must analyse to improve."
