Wilfried Bony urges Man City to ATTACK Barcelona ahead of Champions League showdown

NEW boy Wilfried Bony says Manchester City must not show Barcelona too much respect in their Champions League showdown on Tuesday.

Striker Bony says City need to strike the right balance between their normal attacking style and ensuring the Catalan giants do not grab a precious away goal in the first leg of the last 16 tie.

He said: “We don't look at Barcelona and think they are a big club. This is a match between two big clubs. They have great players, but we won’t look at that. We will just focus on our team, our performance and our way of playing.

"We know we need to score here but we also know they can score at any time. We will play to win, not to draw. We want to win every game but there are soem things you can't control. If we start quickly against Barca we could have the perfect night."

“It was very important for us to beat Newcastle and give ourselves a better feeling for the game. Barcelona lost to Malaga but they are a team who can win today and lose tomorrow. They are a great team that can do anything at any time so we need to concentrate on our own game.”

For me, to play against Barcelona in the Champions League is a very big thing, but I aim to enjoy it

Bony is likely to be a substitute again after Edin Dzeko’s impressive display alongside Sergio Aguero in City’s 5-0 win over Newcastle when he made his debut from the bench.

The £28m former Swansea striker admits he is still adapting to the massive drop in temperatures in England after six weeks away helping the Ivory Coast win the African Nations Cup in Equatorial Guinea.

He added: “I am not 100 per cent yet. I have only just got back from Africa, so it's normal for me to be on the bench. But it was important when I came on that I tried to do what the coach expects from me, and I tried to do that.

“I have found it difficult this week, coming from 30-35 degrees heat to zero or five degrees, so it has been good for me to take it step by step. But Tuesday is a big game, so I need to be ready for that.

“I am very excited. I can't way to get onto the pitch on Tuesday. For me, to play against Barcelona in the Champions League is a very big thing, but I aim to enjoy it.

“It's been a good few weeks for me. My country won the African Cup of Nations but now I am focussed on my club and the start we had together was fantastic.”

Bony’s arrival has intensified competition for places in City’s attack and, significantly, fired up Dzeko to produce his best performance of the season. The Bosnian international scored his first goal since September, as well as winning the first minute penalty, converted by Aguero, and creating the second goal for Samir Nasri.

“Edin played very well and so did all of the team,” said Bony.

“It was important to reduce the points gap [on Chelsea] and we did that. Sergio scored early and after that the game was quite easy for us.

"We controlled the game and are happy about the result. It was a perfect day for us, and it could have been perfect for me as well but their goalkeeper [Tim Krul] made a great save. But the important thing was the win so we have to be happy about that.

“We are working very hard in training with the coach and he will decide who is going to play. I am just happy to be part of the team.

“Every day is a challenge. As a team we want to improve, to be at the top and win trophies. So it's good to have a lot of good players and I am happy to be part of that. I know I will be better in the weeks to come.”
