Roma chief admits relying on indispensable £37m Liverpool target Miralem Pjanic

LIVERPOOL could struggle to sign Roma ace Miralem Pjanic this summer as the Serie A club become increasingly reliant upon their playmaker.

Miralem Pjanic has impressed at Roma this season and is thought to be worth £37m

That is the view of Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini, who admits mistakes in the January transfer market could hamper Roma's season.

The club brought in forward Victor Ibarbo on loan from Cagliari and Seydou Doumbia from CSKA Moscow in a determined bid to bolster their attack and secure a top-three finish in Serie A.

Neither player has impressed so far, frustrating Sabatini, who had the chance to sign Luiz Adriano and Yevhen Konoplyanka in January.

And it appears Pjanic has had to carry the burden of failed signings into the spring.

Sabatini said after Roma's 1-1 draw with Feyenoord: “Yesterday (Pjanic) wasn't decisive, but we rely too much on him to solve our problems.

“In terms of effort he was commendable. We have faith in him and we know he will find his game again.

“The players must bring something more to the pitch, though I'm not sure what exactly.

“I see them training in the pitch and I know we'll find ourselves again.”

Pjanic is wanted by Liverpool and recently denied reports he had met with Reds boos Brendan Rodgers over a £37million move.

The midfielder, 24, commands a wage of around £160,000 as Liverpool target another key playmaker in their post-Steven Gerrard era.
