Jordan Henderson has joined Twitter

The former Reds defender welcomed Henderson to the social media platform with his top tips on how to avoid criticism.

Carragher - now a pundit - has copped plenty of flack from fans for a variety of misdemeanours in his tweets.

And with Henderson - tipped to become Liverpool's next captain when Steven Gerrard leaves at the end of the season - finally caving in and creating an account, Carragher passed on his wisdom.

Indeed, Carragher believe there are five surefire ways to avoid controversy online.

He said: "@JHenderson Welcome Jordan. Don't advertise or misspell anything, give an opinion, swear or take a selfie & you'll be fine."

However, the now-retired Carragher left off the number one tip for avoiding abuse as a footballer, which holds both online and in real life: perform on the pitch.

Don't advertise or misspell anything, give an opinion, swear or take a selfie & you'll be fine.

That hasn't been a problem for Henderson in recent times however, and maybe this move is the latest in the former Sunderland man's attempts to take on more responsibility.

He said recently: "To lose Lucas first was a big blow because he has been outstanding for us since he came into the team as that defensive, holding midfielder.

"Obviously Stevie (Gerrard) is a big loss, even though it is not as long (as Lucas), but there are some big games coming up that he might not be involved in.

"But it is another chance for people to come in and show what they are made of and slot straight into the team. Hopefully someone can do that.

"Maybe I need to take more responsibility with those two players gone."
