Simon Mignolet has kept five clean sheets from his last nine outings

The Reds goalkeeper endured a rocky period over November and December this season and was dropped for Brad Jones.

Liverpool were considering buying a replacement stopper, with Victor Valdes on their list of targets, but Mignolet reclaimed his place in the first XI and has now kept five clean sheets in nine games.

And he discussed how his fiancee helped him through the difficult moments.

He said: "It was Boxing Day, my family were over here, and my missus and everyone were having dinner when she said: ‘Simon, are you sometimes over-thinking stuff?’

“Those were her words. I didn’t really give a response at the time. She knows when to speak to me about football and when to leave me alone. The next day I went into training and as we were analysing the game the coaching staff gave me the same words.

“That was the trigger in my mind that we had to say ‘Look, we have to sort this out’. Jasmien comes to every single game and follows it. We’ve been together since before I was a footballer and she knows me better than anyone, my character, that’s why she said it."

Meanwhile, Reds chairman Tom Werner says Raheem Sterling will sign a new contract at the club.

Sterling is reportedly being offered a £120,000-a-week deal to stay on Merseyside but Real Madrid are chasing the winger.

Werner told the Liverpool Echo: "All I can say is that I’m hopeful that we’ll conclude a deal.

“Obviously it’s important for us. He’s an exceptional player.”

Meanwhile, Jordan Henderson has backed himself to fill Liverpool's midfield void in the coming weeks.

The Reds are without Steven Gerrard or Lucas for today's FA Cup clash with Crystal Palace, with the former ruled out for three weeks and the latter six.

But Henderson insists he can play the defensive midfield role in the absence of the key pair.

He said: “Maybe I need to take more responsibility with those two players gone.”

Danny Ings Player Profile

In transfer news, Liverpool target Danny Ings is to fly to Spain to discuss terms with Real Sociedad over a move.

Ings, 22, is wanted by Liverpool and his contract at Burnley expires this summer.

But the Englishman is appears happy to leave the Premier League and could team up with David Moyes next summer.

The club have received a boost, however, in the news Inter manager Roberto Mancini is determined to land Manchester City's Yaya Toure in July.

Defensive midfielder Toure, 31, appears willing to leave the Premier League and see out his career at the San Siro.

And the good news for Liverpool is that Toure's arrival would almost certainly kill any lingering interest they have in Lucas, who was wanted by Mancini in the transfer window last month.

And finally, the Reds are favourites to land Porto full-back Danilo after Neymar convinced the Brazilian not to join Real Madrid.

Barcelona ace Neymar is great friends with Danilo, 23, and tried to tempt the right-back to the Nou Camp.

But Barca's transfer embargo until 2016 means Liverpool are favourites to sign the player, according to Portuguese newspaper O Jogo.
