JACKIE McNAMARA wants his Dundee United upstarts to end all the premature treble talk that has come from Ronny Deila and his Celtic team.

Jackie McNamara says Dundee United can spoil Celtic's treble party

United are also challenging for glory on all three fronts but it is the Hoops who have been doing all the talk of a domestic clean sweep.

The two teams meet in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals, the League Cup Final and in the Premiership in successive games in March.

And McNamara feels his men can bring Celtic to their knees.

The United boss said: “We’ve both got a lot to play for. They are desperate and they’ve been making a lot of noise about winning the treble this year from the start of the season, so that’s their main aim.

After the first game only one of us can win the treble

“Our main aim will be to win the first one available to get into the semi-final of the Scottish Cup and then we’ve got the League Cup Final the week after.

“After the first game only one of us can win the treble.”

United are within touching distance of Celtic in the Premiership – and McNamara is delighted with the way the season is going, even after losing Gary Mackay-Steven and Stuart Armstrong to Parkhead.

“It’s good to be involved and the lads are looking forward to it as well,” added McNamara.

“It shows a bit of success as well because one is a final, one is a quarter-final – an important one to start with.”
