United and Chelsea have both been mulling over £77m bids for the coveted 21-year-old.

Speculation has been unrelenting over Pogba's future in recent weeks, with his agent Mino Raiola claiming his client could leave the Bianconeri in the summer.

And according to sources in Spain, United and Chelsea have a battle on their hands to secure Pogba with Barcelona training their sights on the Frenchman.

Although they have been hit with a transfer embargo until January 2016, Pogba has been placed on their shortlist.

However, they are also ready to incur the wrath of Real Madrid by plotting a move for Isco as an alternative, who has become a mainstay for Los Blancos since Gareth Bale's absence.

This is despite Real boss Carlo Ancelotti dropping a subtle hint that Isco may have to leave to get more regular first team football.

He said: "I have no doubt - if Cristiano Ronaldo, Benzema and Bale are fit, they will always play.

"I have said this many times before - it's not complicated.

"It's a system that we started last year against Barcelona and we use it very well."

The Pogba/Isco saga is an intriguing transfer puzzle that could be solved in the summer.
