Wanyama went down seconds before half time in the FA Cup third-round replay that Saints went on to win 1-0 thanks to a Shane Long strike.

And manager Ronald Koeman bemoaned the midfielder's injury, which could see Wanyama sidelined for several weeks.

Koeman said: "We played with very good organisation. It was difficult, it was tough and it was difficult to play out there. There were a lot of long balls and battles and we scored with our first chance.

"We kept another clean sheet and that is important. We were prepared for the game and we showed that.

Premier League Talking Points - Gameweek 22

"Victor Wanyama is a pity. Before the match I spoke to him and told him he would have 45 minutes, and he got injured with 10 seconds of the half left! He will have a scan tomorrow and we will see, but he will be missing for a few weeks.

"It is difficult. I won't necessarily go into the transfer market, I have young lads who we can use."

Saints face Liverpool in a clash that could have a massive impact on the Premier League's top four positions on 22 February.

Before then, Koeman's men travel to Bewcastle and QPR, while they host Swansea and West Ham in the league.
