Liverpool warned against reviving interest in Schalke defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos
LIVERPOOL have been told not to bother reviving their interest in Greek centre-back Kyriakos Papadopoulos this summer.
The Anfield club were heavily linked with a move for the Schalke defender last summer before a knee injury scuppered any move.
It is thought that Liverpool planned to reassess the situation this summer, only for the player to suffer a shoulder injury that ruled him out of the World Cup.
However, Schalke have now announced that they expect Papadopoulos to be fit in time for pre-season training, and won't allow him to leave, even on loan.
Schalke general manager Horst Heldt told Bild: "Yes, Kyrikos will be ready for the start of training on July 1.

"He has recovered from his recent shoulder injury while on holiday and the left knee isn't causing any more problems.
"We are optimistic that he can complete a good pre-season."
Reports suggested that Papadopoulos could be in line for a loan move to Greece with PAOK Salonika as he endeavoured to get his injury-plagued career back on track, but the player's agent, Roger Wittman, has now ruled that out.
He said: "The rumours arriving from Greece are just rumours.
"Papa will remain for sure at Schalke."
