Joe Hart leads call to arms to find descendants of FA's founding fathers
LIVERPOOL captain Steven Gerrard has joined his countrymen in highlighting the importance of the search to find the descendants of the FA's founding fathers.
The nationwide search has begun in earnest to find the lawmakers who helped establish the FA 150 years ago.
Gerrard featured in a promotional video along with his England team-mates on the FA's official website, in which they all name the innovators of the English game.
The eight founding fathers of footballers- Ebenezer Cobb Morley, Arthur Pember, Charles William Alcock, Francis Maule Campbell, John Forster Alcock, Herbert Thomas Steward, George Twizell Wawn and James Turner irrevocably shaped the future of football at a meeting in the Freemasons' Tavern.
The living descendants of these footballing figureheads who can be identified and located, will be cordially invited to a special ceremony to be held at Wembley in October.
Roy Hodgson claims it only right that the founding fathers of football are appropriately honoured.
He said: "We should all recognise not only the sporting contribution that these men have made but the impact that football has had in this country and around the world.
We should all recognise not only the sporting contribution that these men have made
"Football is part of the fabric of our society and without the vision of these eight men 150 years ago, it may not have come to exist."
England keeper Joe Hart echoed the thoughts of his manager, adding: "It is important we honour those that did so much for football."Whatever your background, everyone can play football. You just need a ball and a place to play and it is pretty much the same now as it was 150 years ago.
“I had a chance to hold the priceless original minute book when The FA launched its anniversary year and it was pretty special to see the laws of the game as they were first written.”
The FA has 400,000 volunteers and 300,000 coaches who are involved within the game at grassroots level.
