Cardiff face battle to persuade ex-Liverpool star Dirk Kuyt to leave Turkey
CARDIFF CITY have a job on their hands to convince summer transfer target Dirk Kuyt to quit Fenerbahce.
Kuyt left Liverpool last June to join the Turkish giants, for a fee of around £1m.
He has enjoyed a successful season in Istanbul, playing a key role as Fenerbahce bid to make the Europa League final.
Cardiff have been tracking the Dutch international, and are set to make a move for him to help spearhead their Premier League campaign next season following automatic promotion.
However, Kuyt is happy in Turkey and is less than 12 months into a three-year-deal, meaning the Bluebirds would have to pay a similar fee to the amount that forced his move from Anfield.
Cardiff boss Malky Mackay wants to line-up Kuyt alongside former Liverpool team-mate Craig Bellamy, but securing the 32-year-old won't be straightforward.
Kuyt revealed his happiness at Fenerbahce last night after helping his side earn a 1-0 lead in their Europa League semi-final against Benfica, saying: "It is a great night for Turkish soccer."
