Arsenal told to spend big if they want Barcelona's David Villa and Victor Valdes
ARSENAL have been warned by Barcelona they must spend big if they are to get their hands on Victor Valdes and David Villa.
Wantaway keeper Valdes has been tracked by Manchester United for a while, as a possible replacement for the flappable David De Gea.
The Gunners were close to signing Villa in the January transfer window, but a deal couldn't be struck out between the two clubs.
Villa had a health fear last week when he was admitted to hospital with kidney stones.
Spanish paper El Economista say that Arsenal would have to spend £21m to land the pair.
They also purport the fact that the likes of Santi Cazorla and Nacho Monreal have settled well at the Emirates, which could convince David Villa to make the switch.
Arsenal have a good working relationship with Barcelona, having arranged deals in past windows for Cesc Fabregas and Alex Song to move to the Camp Nou.
The need for a new goalkeeper appears to be high on Wenger's list of priorities, especially with Wojciech Szczesny failing to convince that he deserves the No1 gloves.
Valdes has enjoyed a decorated career at Barca, which makes him an attractive proposition for an Arsenal side that are likely to go eight seasons without winning a trophy.
