Harry Redknapp: I am no gambler
HARRY REDKNAPP denies he is mortgaging QPR’s future with his spectacular spending.
After signing France striker Loic Remy for £8 million, Redknapp spent a club-record £12.5m on centre-back Christopher Samba on deadline day.
Club owner Tony Fernandes will pay £31.2m in wages to Samba and £24.9m to Remy if the club stay up and they see out their four-and-a-half year deals, but Redknapp, who signed Jermaine Jenas on an 18-month deal and Andros Townsend on loan, said: “How am I responsible for mortgaging QPR?
“I took two players from Spurs and the chairman brought in Samba, and did a deal with Remy. He will sell Remy if needs be.
eople’s perception is nonsense. Yes it is big money, but that’s up to the chairman and the shareholders
“People’s perception is nonsense. Yes it is big money, but that’s up to the chairman and the shareholders. It was not me saying, ‘Go out and buy Samba’.”
Former Blackburn centre-back Samba will come into the side to face Norwich today and Redknapp added: “I believe we’ll stay up – I’ve said that all along.”
