Crewe reach Wembley
CREWE survived a late onslaught at Southend to book their place in the League Two play-off final, their first Wembley outing since 1997.
Having won the first leg 1-0, Crewe looked on for an easy night when Ajay Leitch-Smith gave them a 24th-minute lead from Ashley Westwood’s pass. Southend replied by hitting the woodwork twice within the first 11 minutes of the
second half, before substitute Neil Harris gave them a lifeline.
Max Clayton gave Crewe the advantage, then Chris Barker set up a frantic finale. However Crewe hung on, at 3-2 overall.
