Alexander Doni blow but Andy Carroll is Liverpool hero
KENNY DALGLISH was plunged into an FA Cup goalkeeping crisis last night as Andy Carroll snatched a last-gasp winner for Liverpool at Blackburn.
Stand-in goalkeeper Alexander Doni was sent off for a professional foul on Junior Hoilett in the first half of Liverpool’s 3-2 win which means he will be suspended for the semi-final against Everton at Wembley.
With Pepe Reina serving a three-match ban it leaves substitute Brad Jones as the only recognised goalkeeper at the club.
The Australian’s first act was to save a penalty from Yakubu. But the former Everton striker headed in from a set-piece at the end of the first half after a double from Maxi Rodriguez inside 16 minutes had given Liverpool what looked like a comfortable lead.
But Jones gifted Blackburn a second penalty and this time Yakubu made no mistake for his 15th Premier League goal.
Carroll, though, had the last word to leave Rovers deep in relegation trouble.
