Jem Karacan hoping to shine again for Reading

JEM KARACAN has not even felt like a footballer at times in the last year, but now Reading’s captain is hoping he can help to secure a match at Wembley.

A serious knee injury in September 2013 and various setbacks since limited Karacan, below, to just four minutes of football prior to Saturday. But he scored after coming off the bench during a 4-1 defeat at Watford.

Now he is hoping to play his part in securing an FA Cup semi-final against Arsenal during tonight’s replay with Bradford. “I’m a footballer again,” said Karacan. “We know Bradford will be coming all guns blazing to get a result. But playing at Wembley is one of those things you just can’t describe.”

Watford are second in the table on goal difference and Matej Vydra said: “We know how difficult the play-offs are. We want to finish in the top two.”

Fulham’s cushion over third-bottom Wigan has been cut to six points after a 1-1 draw at Sheffield Wednesday and Ryan Tunnicliffe said: “We’re in a dogfight, but if you show character at places like this it can only help.”

Millwall are nine points adrift of safety after a 2-0 defeat at Bolton and caretaker boss Neil Harris said: “The target is to win a game as quickly as possible and see where it takes us.”
