Chelsea v Genk: Andre Villas-Boas: I won't sell striker trio
CHELSEA will not sell Nicolas Anelka, Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou if new contracts are not agreed with the three strikers.
Drogba and Kalou have been offered new deals by Chelsea while no decision has yet been taken on Anelka.
But boss Andre Villas-Boas, preparing for Wednesday’s night’s Champions League match against Belguim side Genk, is happy to run the risk of losing the players for nothing rather than recouping a transfer fee when the January transfer window opens.
We still have plenty of time
“The most important thing is for the club to try to defend its interests. We know these players are of higher importance,” said Villas-Boas. “That’s why the offers are on the table, apart from with Anelka, end of story.
“We will try to get them to reach an agreement.”
Should all three move on, Chelsea would go from having an embarrassment of riches up front to arguably lacking numbers.
“That’s why the talks are ongoing,” added Villas-Boas. “We still have plenty of time.”
