Broadfoot relishing Spanish onslaught
KRIK Broadfoot knows the atmosphere at Valencia’s Mestalla Stadium will be hostile on Tuesday night, but his attitude is: “Bring it on.”
The Rangers defender reckons he and his team-mates will thrive on the bear-pit frenzy generated by the locals.
“We’re used to it,” he said. “I hope it’s a good atmosphere because we all enjoy that. We’re not intimidated, we’re excited and the players are used to the pressure.
“The best I’ve played in front of was in the UEFA Cup Final in Manchester but it’s always great at Ibrox and Parkhead for Old Firm matches as well. That’s the kind of thing you want as a player.”
Broadfoot believes the big match atmosphere can help the Gers stay on course for Euro glory.
“If we can take something from Valencia it will give us a good chance of qualifying,” he said. “When the draw was made we wanted to stay in Europe after Christmas and we would have been delighted with that. But as it stands now we want to qualify. We want second or even first spot in the group.
“But at the same time we’re not kidding ourselves. Valencia are a top team and they will raise their game again this week because they got a bit of a surprise at how good we were at Ibrox.
“But the way we’ve played generally in Europe, we’ve got what we deserved.
“Opponents can’t complain because we have a system that teams find hard to break down and I just hope it can keep working for us.
“We’re simply taking each game as it comes and preparing properly each time. The sports scientist has us doing all the right things and everyone feels fresh.”
