Manchester United assistant manager Mike Phelan has signed a new contract until 2024. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's right-hand man's deal was set to expire next year, but United have provided the Norwegian boss with a boost as pressure mounts on him to deliver success.
"The former Reds midfielder has agreed a fresh deal until June 2024 after returning to the club when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was initially appointed caretaker manager in December 2018.
"He was moved to his current role in the following May, after previously being first-team coach.

"The 59-year-old has a wealth of experience and was, of course, a much-valued member of Sir Alex Ferguson's coaching team.
"As a player, he made 146 appearances for United after signing from Norwich City in 1989, before joining West Brom in 1994.
"He was at the heart of Sir Alex's first trophy-winning team, with honours including the 1990 FA Cup, 1991 European Cup Winners' Cup and 1993 Premier League title.
"The coaching team will already be planning ahead for our next fixture after the international break, which comes at Leicester City, in the Premier League, on Saturday 16 October."

Phelan's two-year contract extension runs for the same length of time as Solskjaer's current deal.
Solskjaer is under pressure to turn United's lacklustre start to the season around after receiving backing in the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils are fourth in the Premier League with 14 points from a possible 21, but the toughest test yet has been a trip to West Ham United.
Solskjaer made 11 changes as United were dumped out of the Carabao Cup at the first hurdle and oversaw a humiliating Champions League opener defeat against BSC Young Boys.
