The Spurs boss was expected to crack the whip to reinforce club discipline after 16 players defied him by going to a ‘secret’ party in Dublin.
But Redknapp shocked fans by appearing to duck the issue. He gave his rebels a slap on the wrist rather than the severe punishment he originally threatened.
Now the fact that the players were let off so lightly has sparked fears that Redknapp’s authority could be under threat. Tough action, claimed an insider, could have threatened dressing room morale.
But there are growing fears that Redknapp’s failure to come down hard on players who ignored his wishes could be seen as weakness and possibly jeopardise the club’s dream of breaking into the Premier League’s top four.
