When will grassroots football come back? When can we play football
GRASSROOTS football was a chance for children and adults to get some much-needed exercise during relaxed lockdown last year and is now set for a comeback. When will grassroots football come back?
Lockdown: Plans suggest ‘rapid reopening of economy’ says expert
Grassroots football players, many of whom can't access private gardens, have spent the last month without an avenue to play their sport, despite advice from experts about outdoors exercise remaining safe during the pandemic. Millions of parents may be attempting to keep their children from climbing up the walls, many of whom will also want to catch up with their friends. Now their time has come, as the Government will soon relax some of its more severe restrictions following the Easter holidays.
Conservative MP Tracey Crouch told BBC Radio 4's Westminster Hour the sport was "already socially distanced".
She said: “For youngsters playing competitive team sports, there’s no reason why you can’t just suspend competition but allow for training to continue.
“Then there are socially-distanced sports in themselves. To me, that doesn’t make any sense.
"I think golf and tennis are things that bring a great deal of joy to people and should still be allowed to continue."

“I appreciate it’s challenging for the government because once you start opening something, then someone else comes up and says, ‘what about me?’
"So I do understand the decision that the government has taken, but I think it’s the wrong decision.”
The Prime Minister hopes to bring grassroots football back again next month.
Boris Johnson will make a statement in the House of Commons at 3.30pm today outlining the Government's phased approach to reopening parts of the UK.
