Chelsea using Timo Werner transfer fixer in Kai Havertz negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen
Chelsea are using a familiar face to help with Kai Havertz transfer talks.
Chelsea: Pundit sends warning over Kai Havertz transfer
Chelsea are once again using Luxembourg-based lawyer Michael Becker to help get a deal for Kai Havertz over the line, according to German football expert Christian Falk.
Bayer Leverkusen have slapped a £90million price tag on the midfielder but that is £20m more than the Blues are willing to pay.
Havertz is keen to leave the Bundesliga this summer after his side failed to qualify for the Champions League.
Chelsea have spent more than £80m signing Ajax ace Hakim Ziyech and RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner.
During the deal for Werner, the west Londoners called on Becker to help broker the £47m transfer.
The same agent also represented Michael Ballack when he moved from Bayern Munich to Stamford Bridge in 2006.
Falk has it on good authority that Chelsea are once again using Becker to try and get a deal for Havertz over the line.
"When Werner was coming to England the agent of Ballack, who also helped Ballack move to Chelsea, had his finger in the deal," Falk told the Football Ranks podcast.
"He has work in the [Havertz] deal and if you have such connections to Germany and many people are sitting around the table...
"I think some people in the background can push the deal a little bit more."
Before Chelsea splash the cash on more offensive players head coach Frank Lampard may need to offload some of his stacked squad.
The ex-midfielder has admitted he needs to have talks with the board about how to balance the budget.
“We have brought a couple of players into the club already, which shows positivity about where we want to go," Lampard said.
“We know the club not being able to do business in the last two windows has meant we haven’t been able to bring in, move players out and I think that is as an important thing than bringing players in at times, to keep freshening up the squad and keeping the competitive nature of it.
“I know where I want to go with the squad, but that has to be a fluid conversation with the club.
"Of course, economics will come into it, so we will cross that bridge when it comes.”
Chelsea are also looking to bring in a new left-back and centre-half before the 2020/21 campaign.
