Liverpool vs Everton: Jurgen Klopp reacts to 0-0 draw
Liverpool were held to a goalless draw by Everton in the 236th Merseyside derby as the Premier League season resumed. There were few chances in a tight and ultimately disappointing game at Goodison Park but it was the Toffees, without a win over their local rivals since 2010, who came closest to taking the points.
With 10 minutes left, Dominic Calvert-Lewin's flick from a low Gylfi Sigurdsson cross was pushed out by Liverpool keeper Alisson as Tom Davies' follow-up shot hit the post.
Liverpool, who left Mohamed Salah on the bench, lacked their usual potency in attack with their best opening coming in the 35th minute when Roberto Firmino fired a shot wide from a promising position, while Fabinho went close late on with a curling free-kick.
"Today the point is one we deserve, even though I have to admit Everton had the best chance to win the game," Klopp said afterwards.
"I saw only the chance (Alisson saved). We should not take it for granted. Absolutely outstanding.

"It was a difficult game for a goalkeeper: he had the ball at his feet much more than he had in his hands. That is what a world-class goalie is. He saved us a point - it was not the first one.
"I liked the intensity level of the game from my boys, the high press, but I didn't like too much the rhythm - but we cannot force that.
"We didn't have enough chances, that's for sure. When I look back, I think all the derbies here at Goodison look very similar, the result looks similar.
"Everton were well organised so we had to run a lot, which I liked. In three days we play another game against Palace and they looked in good shape."

Arsenal slumped to a last-gasp 2-1 Premier League defeat at relegation-threatened Brighton on Saturday in a blow to the London club's chances of securing European football next season.
Frenchman Neal Maupay struck the winner five minutes into stoppage time after Nicolas Pepe's fine second-half opener had been cancelled out by Lewis Dunk.
The defeat left the Gunners, who lost keeper Bernd Leno to a knee injury in the first half, in ninth place with 40 points from 30 games, six behind fifth-placed Manchester United.
The result came three days after Mikel Arteta's side suffered a 3-0 defeat at Manchester City as the Premier League returned after a three-month hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic.
