La Liga president Javier Tebas reacts to Man City Champions League ban with stinging post
Javier Tebas has addressed Manchester City's Champions League ban with a fiery statement.
Man City: UEFA gives club two-season European ban
La Liga president Javier Tebas has praised UEFA’s decision to ban Manchester City from the Champions League. City have been slapped with a two-season ban from UEFA competitions as well as a €30million (£25m) fine due to Financial Fair Play breaches.
For years we have been calling for severe action against Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain
The governing body’s Adjudicatory Chamber found the Citizens had overstated their sponsorship revenue in accounts submitted between 2012 and 2016.
Tebas, who has been critical of the Premier League champions and Paris Saint-Germain’s spending in the past, is pleased with UEFA taking action.
The La Liga president tweeted: "UEFA is finally taking decisive action. Enforcing the rules of financial fair play and punishing financial doping is essential for the future of football.
“For years we have been calling for severe action against Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain. Better late than never."

City have already announced their plans to appeal the verdict at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
The Manchester giants stated that they aren’t surprised by UEFA’s decision to ban them from their competitions.
The club accused the administrative body of having a flawed investigation process, which included a number of leaks to the media.

City said: “Manchester City is disappointed but not surprised by today’s announcement by the UEFA Adjudicatory Chamber.
“The Club has always anticipated the ultimate need to seek out an independent body and process to impartially consider the comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence in support of its position.
“In December 2018, the UEFA Chief Investigator publicly previewed the outcome and sanction he intended to be delivered to Manchester City, before any investigation had even begun.
“The subsequent flawed and consistently leaked UEFA process he oversaw has meant that there was little doubt in the result that he would deliver. The Club has formally complained to the UEFA Disciplinary body, a complaint which was validated by a CAS ruling.
“Simply put, this is a case initiated by UEFA, prosecuted by UEFA and judged by UEFA.
“With this prejudicial process now over, the Club will pursue an impartial judgment as quickly as possible and will therefore, in the first instance, commence proceedings with the Court of Arbitration for Sport at the earliest opportunity.”
City will continue to perform in this season’s Champions League where they are scheduled to take on Real Madrid in the Round of 16.
Pep Guardiola’s side, though, will be omitted from UEFA’s competitions throughout the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 seasons.
