Wanted: Yan Couto
Arsenal are interested in signing Coritiba defender Yan Couto.
That’s according to Globo Esporte, who claim Mikel Arteta’s view Couto as the long-term successor for Hector Bellerin.
The Brazilian impressed at right-back against England’s Under-18 side in September 2019 and is reportedly in talks with "three top clubs in Europe”.
Bayer Leverkusen are also interested in the 17-year-old, who could be snapped up for as little as £5million at the end of the season.
Arsenal want to signings
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has identified two positions he wants to strengthen in the January transfer window.
However, his hopes of doing so are slim given he has a limited budget to work with, and because the Gunners’ board are wary of doing deals this month.
Arteta is keen to land a box-to-box midfielder and a defender, report the Daily Telegraph, in the current transfer window.
However, the club’s restricted finances mean that Arsenal are unlikely to complete any permanent transfers and so are facing having to settle for loan deals.
Dayot Upamecano pursuit
Barcelona want to sign RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano.
Spanish publication Sport claim the Catalan giants want Upamecano, 21, at the Nou Camp and have made him their top priority in the January transfer window.
The Spanish champions have followed Upamecano, 21, for several months and believe he would be happy to join - despite interest from Premier League Arsenal.
The talented centre-back is thought to command a £50million fee and talks are believed to have already started, El Desmarque claim.
Granit Xhaka staying
Mikel Arteta is confident Granit Xhaka won’t leave Arsenal this month, despite suggestions the midfielder has agreed a deal to leave the club.
Xhaka’s future at the Emirates has been up in the air since his outburst at Arsenal fans in September.
“The first message for him was that I wanted to understand how he was feeling, why he was feeling that way,” Arteta explained while discussing how he convinced Xhaka to stay.
“I wanted him to hear from me my opinion on him, and that I was ready to support him and that I was ready to push the club to be supportive of him too, because I thought he could be a really, really good player for us and he could enjoy in this football club playing under me.
“I tried to convince him that way. He thought about it, he had a very positive response afterwards, and I think he changed his mind.”
Paulo Dybala deal
Paulo Dybala is set to sign a lucrative new deal with Juventus.
Manchester United, Barcelona and Tottenham were eager to sign the Argentine international last summer but the deal failed to materialise.
And any chance of resurrecting the deal looks over.
Goal claim Maurizio Sarri’s side have offered Dybala, 26, a new long-term deal at the Allianz Stadium.
