The midfielder was the talk of the summer transfer window, but a move to Manchester United never materialised with United adamant most of the noise surrounding a deal was coming from Portugal.
Top four rivals Tottenham were also interested and even sent delegates to Lisbon to discuss a potential deal.
However Fernandes stayed put at Sporting and has recently spoke out on his stance on leaving the club.
“I’m not worried at all [about transfer window speculation],” Fernandes said after Portugal beat Lithuania 6-0 on Thursday.
