Son Heung-min sends apology to Andre Gomes after Tottenham Champions League win
Tottenham star Son Heung-min issued a heartfelt apology to Everton’s Andre Gomes after scoring against Red Star in the Champions League.
Son Heung-min issued a fresh apology to Everton midfielder Andre Gomes on Wednesday night.
The Tottenham attacker grabbed a double against Red Star Belgrade just days after his tackle led to Gomes badly injuring his ankle.
Son appeared to trip Gomes up on the halfway line during Sunday's 1-1 draw, leading to the Everton midfielder catching his foot under his body and rolling over on his ankle.
The Spurs star was seen in tears on the pitch after seeing Gomes’ leg, and appeared to be apologising to the Portuguese immediately after scoring against Red Star as he looked down the camera and held his arms up.
And speaking after the game, he admitted it has been a tough few days since the incident at Goodison Park.
He told reporters again how sorry he was for the incident, whil praising the help of his team-mates.
“Of course it has been a really tough few days,” he said.
“But I have realised how lucky I am with all the support I have had from the fans and my teammates.
“I can say I'm really sorry for the accident and the situation but I had to focus for the team and I had to keep going and it was the right response to all the people who have supported me."
Spurs are now second in Champions League Group B after the win and are in a good position to qualify for the knockout stages.
And Son was delighted with the result, praising his team-mates' attitudes.
"It is so important to win this game, especially against a team that are unbeaten at home,” he continued.
“We had a good attitude and we scored the goals in the first half. It is massive for our confidence.
“It is a really difficult place to come and we know we can play well in the away games, so we can take these positives forward."
